John Carson is the Founder of the Carolina Storm Spotters and has quite a few years chasing. He was first a part of the North Carolina Storm Chasers & Spotters team several years ago, before branching off and forming CSS in 2017.
David Coviello joined CSS in 2017. David has a long 20-year history with Skywarn and Storm Chasing. He began his weather passion back in 2005 while living in Fort Lauderdale, FL having several hurricanes hit within 2 months. While working as a Firefighter & EMT since 1997 his past deployments have mostly involved severe weather-related disasters. He is also a ham radio operator (AK4FD) and is involved heavily in Emergency Communications.
Richie had his interest peaked during Hurricane Hugo, which began his descent into weather and radar studying. Richie became a part of the CSS team in 2018 and has been an important part of the team since, including handling Social Media for the group and posting important Severe Weather alerts.
David joined CSS in 2018. He became fascinated with weather by watching the Weather Channel all the time, especially after Hurricane Hugo struck the Carolinas. He got his Skywarn Spotter credentials and joined CSS and became one of our primary Chasers on the team.
Jessie's fascination with weather began through being afraid of storms. She began learning about them and the fear was replaced with curiosity. She loves to help the team while they're in the field with accurate reports. Weather is ever changing and once you think you know all about it, mother nature throws something new into the mix.
Devon has always been fascinated by weather since he was younger. Once older, he hooked up with AccuWeather to provide ground truth updates for their platform. He also joined the CSS family back in 2019 and is a guru with photography and videos having to do with weather and lightning. He remains an active Chaser for the team.
I joined CSS in 2021. My desire to learn more about weather began with fear. I had several close calls with tornados throughout my life so I feared severe storms and wanted to learn more about them. I have always taken pictures and videos during storms and after taking some pictures and sharing them online I was invited to be a part of CSS. I never would have imagined in my past that I would be on a storm spotting team but I am so grateful that I am. Since joining CSS I have learned so much! I no longer fear weather the way I once did. I still have alot to learn but I am grateful that I atleast know how to read radar pretty good at this point. I am excited and eager to learn more with every storm in the future and so grateful to be a part of such an amazing team! They really are the best!
